I Shall Call You Croppy

February 7, 2017

It’s very similar to a camel. A chicken can store nutrients in it’s chest area in a place called the “crop” as in a crop of food. Yesterday, Allison brought in a bag filled with leftovers from her refrigerator, which she said I could deliver to the hens that live in my backyard, mainly in a coup. When I arrived home and began delivering the goodies, one of the chickens with a very large crop, immediately tore into the first treat, some spicy ham lunch meat. Yes chickens love ham too! This particular hen has an unusually large crop that swings when she walks. Now, she wants to talk too…and her first word will probably be “Allison.”
