Cal Fire Prescribed Burn In Colfax Tuesday 3/1

March 1, 2022

CAL FIRE/Placer County Fire Department, in conjunction with the city of Colfax, will perform a six-acre prescribed fire burn Tuesday, March 1, around the city’s infrastructure.

The objective is to further reduce the threat of wildfire to the city’s infrastructure and surrounding community.

This proposed burn is part of a larger North Fork American River Shaded Fuel Break, where crews have reduced wildland fuels by hand and mechanical treatments on more than 1,000 acres. The burn is expected to increase the wildland fire resilience for the city’s property and surrounding community.

CAL FIRE will assign three fire engines and three hand crews to support the success of the project. CAL FIRE has created a burn and smoke management plan while the Placer County Air Quality Management District has issued a burn permit. All operations will be conducted in accordance with Air Quality Control.

It is anticipated smoke from the prescribed fire will be seen from various places within the city limits and surrounding area.

There are no expected impacts to the community other than smoke during the proposed firing operations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Updates on this prescribed burn will be provided via @calfireneu on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
