Battle In The Bay

July 25, 2014

I’m going to make this week’s blog short and sweet.

Tonight the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants begin a three game series at AT&T Park. This is the first time the two teams have met this season since a jury awarded Brian Stow $18 million in damages for the brutal 2011 attack by a pair of Dodgers fans that left Stow with severe brain damage. The Dodgers are responsible for approximately $15 million in the lawsuit.

Tensions between fans of the two organizations will no doubt be heightened this weekend.

As a Dodgers fan, I am satisfied with the verdict. Regardless of how the altercation started, there is no excuse for kicking anyone in the head repeatedly while they lay unconscious on the ground. Louis Sanchez and Marvin Norwood got what they deserve, and should spend a very long time behind bars.

Hopefully the focus for the fans this weekend is on the families in attendance, and a darn good division race, and not on stirring the rivalry pot. The Giants currently have a game and a half lead on LA.
